Feeling puffy or sluggish? It might be your lymph—and C·A·R·A is here to help. Althaea Skin’s multimodal tool isn’t just about glow; it’s a quiet ally for your lymphatic system too.
Says our own Dr. Ava Shamban, celebrity dermatologist and developer of Althaea Skin, “Running parallel to the circulatory system, the lymphatic system contains vessels and nodes that ferry liquid lymph around the system. With lymph nodes all over the body, each functions as a cleansing, filtration station for toxins. The whole system works as your body’s janitor, filtering out excess fluids, debris, inflammatory particles and waste products that it then dumps into the bloodstream to the liver or kidneys to be excreted.”
How do you know your sluggish lymphatic system is stuck in a rut? Bloating and swelling are solid signs. Stubborn swollen lymph nodes can also be the sign of more serious illnesses.
Unlike the circulatory system however – which uses the heart to pump – the lymphatic system relies on the tightening and release of muscle movement to encourage lymphatic circulation and movement. That’s why walking and exercise are so beneficial for immune function and overall health. In addition to regular exercise, lymphatic drainage massage that you do yourself or hire professionally are excellent. But where the neck and face are concerned, the C·A·R·A tool is here to help.
There are a lot of lymph nodes under the jawbone and into the neck. To use the C·A·R·A, after your regular 10-minute session, switch to a Quick Fix 3-minute one on any setting.
- Start under the jawbone in the middle under the chin.
- Slowly sweep the device outward underneath and along the mandible all the way to behind the ear.
- Switch sides to the other direction.
- Repeat every other side until your three minutes are up.
“We’re not positioning C·A·R·A specifically as a lymphatic drainage modality, per se,” says Dr. Shamban. “But every little bit helps contour the face and get things moving.”
